So as the title say's. Im wanting to keep a ray but im not sure the best one to get considering I have never kept one before. So if anyone has any suggestion's please let me know. It will be kept in a 75 gallon grow out tank then when it get's bigger it would go in a bigger tank. Also what substrate is best for ray's? Thank's all.

probably not what you want to hear but if you read the site a little bit there is tons of info and similar questions and answers.
if you plan on buying a bigger tank shortly i would start with a motoro and use non sharp sand as substrate.

If you want it to stay small, get a teacup or reticulated stingray. Otherwise I would go with a motoro.
I would go with a motoro ray. They are one of the hardier rays, and also fairly priced usually. You can find a chart of "soft belly safe" substrate at www.caribsea.com
