Interested in getting my red dragon FH a girlfriend. I was thinking about a female convict and wanted to see what would be the best way to introduce her to the tank. Should I rearrange then add her, or just go the divided route right away. If I divide them how/when do I know when to try to let them together. Any advice is appreciated.

I'd have the divider ready and introduce her to the tank and see how they get along. Then divide them and wait till they show more courting through the divider. I usually wait till my females' tube drops then I drop the divider.
Is there any chance they would be able to live together eventually without a divider or is this unlikely? I'll be going to the lfs store later this week to try and find a nice female.
I think it's not that common for them to be together all the time cuz the male usually gets pretty aggressive with the female. That being said mine have been together for 6 months without a divider. Only thing I found is they stopped spawning as often without the divider. My female gets a little too stressed by my male even though he's not being overly aggressive he still puts her in a corner every now and again. Try the divider and you should be ok. Are you dead set on a convict to breed him with?
Nope I am not dead set on a convict but I wanted something that could work in my current tank until I get my new one in March. He is in a 55 alone but in March my buddy is moving and selling me one of his 150's. So they would be in a 55 for now, but I may not get anything I feel bad dividing because he swims all over the place.
Yeah mine are breeding in a 55 and it's a little cramped when it's halved off. I really would like them to be in a 125. I have a male rd and his female is a short body fader (that's them in my avatar). Tried a sb texas but he wasn't interested in her. There is a sticky in the hybrid section with pics of lots of hybrids that could give you an idea of which route you wanna go.
Yeah I was looking around there, I liked the creamsickle midas x fh cross the most but the room just isn't there currently. I do like the confict x fh cross though so I may try it maybe they'd be ok together, we'll see.
Size mostly, but I may do nothing currently and just wait until March. I am afraid my FH might be miserable with only 2ft of swimming room if I divide the tank.
I've seen some people that have a cave that the female can fit in and the male can't. That way if he beats her up she can swim to the cave. My work pretty good if you go the convict route and best part is his swimming space won't get cut down.
