Want to start discus tank again! Now that I am a bit more experienced I before made the mistake of trying to raise discus as a newb and they all got infected with ich and i did nothing about it. Now i think I am ready. Right now I have a tank of corys, neons, and rasboras. Can any of these coexist with discus? I kno the heat has to be up. Also any other advice before dumping the fish in? like raise them in a quarintine tank or somthing. I have a 55G and was planning on getting 4 discus. Thanks any advice is welcome!

haha you're on ac as well?
i was like hey this looks way familiar
but in anycase (discus do have their own forum so id ask around there or wait for this to be moved)

your fish can coexist with discs preferable adults cuz juvs need their water changes lots and feedings too.

haha yea im tryin to get the most feedback as possible Thx. Also I was wondering is there any good packaged food sold? I kno it was reccommended to make your own but was just wondering.

Coexist? Yes. Thrive together? No. What species are your cories and rasboras? Neons prefer temperate environment so substitute them with cardinals or rummies. Neons lack tolerance for warmer temperature.

If you're starting with discus below 4 inches, get 4 minimum and put them in barebottom tank. Do drip acclimation just to be safe. Do as many water changes as you can since juveniles require multiple small feedings daily.

they all got infected with ich

Its rare for a Discus to get ich. You must of had the temp below 82 degrees. Discus thrive in high temps. Keep it in the 83-86 range.

I feed my juvies...
Frozen bloodworms
Frozen Brine Shrimp
Frozen Beef heart
Omega One Flake
Tetra Color Granules (make sure to soak them first) This stuff is great to enhance their color

i am feeding frozen bloodworms and beef heart... a lfs owner, who is very credible told me not to feed them too much beefheart because thats not what they eat in the wild... in my case, i have a group of 5 wild discus so he recommends me bloodworms, either frozen, fresh or freeze dried... i asked him about making my own food, and also asked him about the recipes i found online...his fish store and fish all back up his reasoning...

the recipe he told me for homemade discus food consists mainly of shrimp...i will also be adding freeze dried bloodworms and freeze dried plankton in with the shrimp paste. the lfs owner didnt really recommend all the other stuff that ive seen online... i might add some turkey heart and add some vitamins... thats about it.. nothing like spirulina or all the other vegetables since they are not part of thier diet in the wild..

btw, beefheart is a pain in the arse to trim and get ALL the fatty stuff and viens off of it.
