Saranac Lake, NY
First off I had a 55 gallon, actually two 55 gallons and they both leaked.
Now one year later, imy mom sais I can't set up any more tanks.

Heres my plan: I will move my two fish from my 29 gallon to my 55 gallon.
its just a blue gourami and a common pleco.

I will use the 29 as a saltwater with the filtration from my old saltwater, which is: Emperor 400 and a Red Sea Delux Prism Skimmer. I also have a power head laying around. I also found a hydrometer and saltwater master test kit laying up in the garage.

Will this be ok?

Next question is i still have the salt and the live sand(not live now) up in my garage. Here is saranac lake, Ny we have gotten down to -20 degrees, is this stuff still useable?

If this is ok, any stocking advise? i really like the looks and pesonality of cowfish but they get way to big. I do not want a reef.

Thx in advance

That should be fine since your interest seems to be just fish. The salt wouldn't have gone bad unless it was somehow contaminated, if anything I'd think the cold would keep it fresher. The sand should definately be fine.

There's a variety of clown gobies all of which look pretty cool and don't get too large for your tank. Also take a look at shrimp gobies since most stay pretty small.

If you browse liveaquaria.com I'm sure you'll find something to suit you.

i would invest in another bag of live sand and forget all the old sand. the salt could have broken down but as long as it wasnt exsposesed to high humidity then it should not have bonded together. The test kit will need to be purchased again becasue the chemicals do go bad after a while. most do anyways, check the box and see if theres an experation date. i would buy new ones anyways but use your best judgement.

I would stick with gobies as well. they are a very active and pretty species that is more then suited for a smaller aqauarium.

Forget the cowfish, they get way too large for a 29g. Also forget the Prizm, they are junk. Get a Backpac or similar skimmer for that tank.
