Hi All,

If anyone is looking for a good new home for their big 1'-5' pet catfish, for whatever reason except for the fish's poor health and/or old age (say, he used to be little and cute but now outgrew your tank or your ability and/or desire to care properly for him, or he ate and keeps eating everybody else in your tank, etc.), I can be your answer. In addition to 5 tanks in the house, 150, 120, 55, 30 and 30 gal, I have a 2500 gal indoor tropical pond in my basement (25' x 6' x 3'; right now split in 2 sections to keep fish from hurting/eating each other, for more info and up-to-date photos see here http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=29488 ). I also have a 12,000 gal outdoor pond (see photos there too).

If you want to get rid of a large gar, eel, arowana, arapaima, giant gourami, shark (as in black shark, tricolor shark, etc), or some other large fish that could desired too! Any koi are welcome, any size, any color.

For pick-up, I am targeting primarily Rochester NY, USA area and would be willing to drive say to places like Buffalo, Siracuse, Albany, Corning, Toronto, Erie, and Cleveland to get a very nice fish. I even went to Hartford CT once. Still, shipping a large fish is a viable option too – a 3 footer in ~4 gal of water with~8 gal of oxygen gas on top could be UPS'ed overnight for under $100 even from California. Just stop feeding the fish 4-5 days before shipping and place a few ammo-rocks in the bag to absorb ammonia produced en-route.

Needless to say, free re-homing (undertaken in the interest and safety of the outgrowing fish) is the best but if you'd like compensation, the pet shops would normally give you 1/3 of the retail value in store credit, only if the fish is in excellent health and form, and less, far less if there are imperfections. I think I could give you more AND in cash, AND I am less picky than your average fish store owner!

Thanks for considering!

Might want to think twice about that black shark. He'd probably kill everything.

How do you heat your 12,000g pond? Or is it coldwater?

Kudos for adopting overgrown catfish. That's good karma right there.

Thank you, Knifegill! Out of all fish listed, is black shark the worst? That bad? Could he? Would he? Wow! Appreciate the heads-up. I have had a 3" one for a while now in a community tank with small guys. He'd been nothing but a well-behaved citizen so far. But I remember vaigely reading something about their aggressive nature, just never knew it could be that bad.

The 12,000 gal pond is outside - I pray for sun to come out and heat it :) It is strictly koi now, well also some goldfish, a few shubunkins, and some golden orf. My two channel cats, 25" and 27" TL, spent a year in there but now they rule the tropical indoor pond - do not seem to mind 77 F year-round.

I wish adoption was more affordable :) 99% of people want good money for their overgrown cats and others... and unfortunately, 90% of my big ones I get from the LFS's, not from private owners, which means $$$
