Would and Oscar a pike, a wussy jack, and a endli work with a THin bar dat? Lfs got some for 15.

I wouldn't do cichlids and dats, maybe frontosa or when they got some size to em maybe some pbass but other than that I wouldn't do it,especially not with those cichlids.

I have mine in with a red bay snook and as mild as those normally are he is still a bit rough on them once in awhile and if I wasn't so attached to it and had another tank for it I would separate it from the dats.;)

not a oscar or JD, maybe a more peaceful cichlid. my IT has been fine with my severums up until they started to breed

really not even an oscar it is the nicest fish i have ever owned i have had mollies that were meaner. Also the fish arnt fully grown so maybe if raised together?

If you try to grow out a Dat and an Oscar, the Oscar will out grow the Dat quickly and eat it.

what if the dat is twice its size?

depends on the size. If the dat is 3 inch and the oscar is an inch and 1/2 then the oscar will still outgrow the dat.

what sizes are you looking to get?

my oscar is 2.5 thinking of getting a 5 -8 inch dat, in the end they will be in a 135 gallon tank with a lot of hiding spots.

i was thinking by the time the oscar gets to ten inches it would slow down with growth and would be simaler size with the dat

I never kept Oscars so someone else may have a better time answering. I am just going by what i know... which is Oscars grow fast and eat EVERYTHING.

I am not sure if oscars growth rate slows down if/when they get to a certain size, but when your 2.5" Oscar gets to 10", your 5" Dat still wont be. Also if you get a 8" Dat, then it will prob eat the small Oscar.

Someone with better knowledge of Oscar growth rates will prob be able to give you a better size combination to start with if there is one.

What I would do in your situation if i REALLY want the 2 is get the largest size Dat possible. Then grow out the small oscar in a different tank or using a divider, as it wouldnt take to long to get it to a size that the Dat wont try eating it. Then again, everyone else above says Oscar/Dat is not a good combo.
