Hello everyone!

so im kinda new, i know what im suppose to know about fishes and all.
so ive been a fish lover for ages now. Raised piranhas a long while ago, but you know stupid kid way of raising them. 40 gallon breeder with 5 piranhas just love watching them rip things apart.
well since then ive changed set up, actually got money now and way much more respect for my fellow fish.
recently i really got into discus fish..love the way they look and spent alot of money and time to get everything to work out.
well looking for something more interesting now.

So ive been thinking of doing a piranha tank, i have a spare 150 gallon tank. thinking of a barebottom with a bunch of drift wood and and some type of plant set up.
first what type would work out for me in your opinion?
how many should or am i able to raise in a 150 gallon.
how about cleaning? im worried that i may show them too much love, that when i reach in and use my siphon to clean the bottom of the tank i may get attack? has that happen to anyone get getting attack while cleaning the tank?

advises would be great! and idea would be also!

thanks!!

thanks! another question...what other type of schooling piranha is there. I know about the Red belly and the cariba...i may have to do a bit more research later this evening to see what i would like.
also size wise, i know piranha are aggressive little dudes and if your smaller im going to eat you type fish. im assuming i should get all the same size too.

Rbp, Cariba, terns, piraya, for pygos. Gold macs, some have grouped geryi, elongs, ect. But I'd leave serra grouping to the OG's. Better stick to rbp or Cariba.

Group of wipples or dents would be sweet as nobodies grouping them and its very do-able

i will be googling searching everything thing you just said to me.
and wipples.??? that sounds do-able as well. something different just exactly what i like.

i was just looking for that i couldnt find anything about it. I know that someone was trying to sell some about 2 or 3 months back i think. It was a nice school of them too.
as of right now im just trying to get an ideas and basic knowledge of them (unless i come up on a super deal ill pick them up).... like cleaning the tank safely, amount of piranha i can keep and easies and best way to keep them all happy.

cleaning the tank won't really be an issue as they will be more afraid of you and you are afraid of them. just watch where you hand is and they usually will stay out of the way.
you can start with as many as you can find in a 150g tank but eventually it'll be too small and you need to downsize and they are pretty messy so very frequent water change is a MUST. as the fish get larger you'll know when the tank is too small and it's time for upgrade or downsize.
as for which specie to get I would suggest you stay with rbp or cariba as they both are easier to obtain as vs the other species so they won't cost you too much money. cariba season was just around the corner so you might still find some babies from vendors.
www.opefe.com is a very good source for you to get information on all the piranha species and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

thanks! yes i just found out about opefe.com yesterday night been reading about everything pretty much since yesterday afternoon.
right now im moving more towards semi adult size and probably 10 at most. since the tank is only 150 gallon i would like to house them for a while untill i get my 210 set up done and ready to move in.
