I want to fill my ten gallon fish tank with one or two blue rams is this possible? On Live Aquaria they say that Blue Rams are very difficult to keep alive is this true? any advice would be appreciated.

Nate

You can..They don't grow very large..And yes, they are very sensitive to water conditions..I used to keep a bunch and I had to drop my ph very low and add blackwater extract/peat....I'm no cichlid expert so maybe someone with more knowledge can help you better understand them..

:welcome: to MFK, and good to see another fellow wa state member

As long as you keep the water fine, you should be ok. They can be a little sensitive. All except for the one in my little plant tank that wont die. He's a champ! He's buddy buddy with a 1" bass too. Awesome fish. Good choice!

I've had a blue ram in my ten gal for about 4 months now, i've had alot of fluctuations with my water due to stupid mistakes mostly, but he's stayed alive, and is really vibrant and healthy. eats like a champ too. i think people under estimate the hardiness of these fish sometimes.

I have a pair of blue rams and they do quite well in my relatively soft but not overly so water. If you can find some that are locally or us bred then they will likely be easier to keep than the ones bred overseas.

Mine have survived a filter failure and temps from 76 to a high of 93 while treating the nasty treatment resistant Ick they brought home frome the store.

I originally had my pair in a 10 gallon but the male was beating up the little female and she was loosing color. So I moved them into my 55. From what I understand many of them would be fine in a 10 gallon though so it just depends on your individuals personality. I would use driftwood and coconut caves to lower the PH/hardness to creat hiding spots and individual territories so they can get away from eachother. a planted area in the middle of the tank with open areas on either side is what worked for me for a while.
And possibly add a small school of neons, or nano rasboras of some kind or some other very small dither type fish.

If you can, get some locally bred, or from Europe. The ones from SE Asia have been inbred to the point of being more delicate than wild ones. And fertility problems.

I got a Pleco and 5 tetras today. I think I should have got more tetras, because ultimatly I think I am only going to add one blue ram what do you guys think?

A pleco is not going to work in a 10 gallon tank. They grow far too large, and they are far to messy.
