I have been tossing around the idea of a loach tank for some time now. I currently keep and breed plecos and cory cats so, I know about catfish but, I have never kept loaches. What would be the best loach to start with for a 75 gallon tank? Are there any loaches that breed in an aquarium setting that can be kept in a 75? I would like this to be a single species tank. So, what loaches do best in groups? I know that most loaches come from streams so, what kind of flow will I need in a 75? What is the best substrate for loaches? Thanks in advance for any help!

75? I would look into groups of smaller, non aggressive loaches as bottom dwellers and have active but non aggressive mid water swimmers(rainbow fish is a popular suggestion).

Or if you want to specialize, you can set up a riverine tank with high unidirectional flow for things like hillstream loaches; but that is a lot of work for very specialized fish...I would go the first option.

Clowns would be my choice! Be prepared in the future to upgrade the filtration system as they eat and eat and eat! And get some currents running too to appreciate their behaviors........... GREAT fish!

I dont recomment clowns unless u already have a very large tank. I have about 15 kuhlis in a 55 and if i added one more piece of dw i could add prolly 15 more... They have a very low bio load and easily breed in captivity if u have it set up right... Uae a sponge filter if you want that to happen because they bread by spinnin around eatchother splashin at the surface and the eggs get fertilized as they drop and they stivk to everything... I recomend a planted tank for some cover. Im actually prolly going to go and get 10 more tom...

There are several species you can get. Clowns will eventually need a bigger tank. They grow wicked slow though. There's a loach site that tells you everything you need to know. Loach.org or something like that. I have all pretty much in my 120. It's a rad tank. Sergent major loaches stay reasonably small and there's a bunch besides clowns. I have sand and drift wood in my tank. I have a fx5 and two ehiems for filters also. You have tons of options man
