Wants a Gar So Bad..

I would like a gar very badly, i have an empty 65g in my guess room in the closet, Are there any other gar related species i can get. I know my petsmart sells needle fish they hunt like gars very much but i do not know if they are related to them in anyway. I would appreciate all comments and info thanks.

they would be fine in a 65G tank, although they are not related to gar!

The gar alternatives are pike characin, and your questions would be better addressed in the characin forums. The most specific advice I can give is that they probably like food, and also water maybe.

You could do multiple needles in a 65 plus some other fish. It is very cool to watch them hunt rosy red minnows.

imo needlenose fish aren't going to long-term stay in a 65.. they can get 12"+ and are schooling fish, and flighty.. they need a good amount of room. there are other species out there in the false gar bracket that stay smaller... problem is most will only take live foods.. and alot of them.
