BRISBANE, Australia -- The death of the "Crocodile Hunter" appears to have triggered a war on stingrays in Australia.
A fisheries department official said up to 10 of the normally docile fish have been found dead and mutilated on Australia's eastern coast since Steve Irwin was killed by one last week. At least two had their tails lopped off.
The official said fishermen who inadvertently catch the rays sometimes cut off their tails to avoid being stung.
The head of Irwin's conservation group said any retribution is unacceptable. He said "that's the last thing Steve would want."
Rays are usually shy and only lash out with their barbed tail when stepped on or frightened. Few people die from the poison.
Irwin was fatally stung in the chest.

I can't believe people are actually stupid enough to do something like this.
