Wash a brand new substrate?

Do you wash your substrate before putting it into your tank?
If you dont, how long do you leave them in the tank to settle down? And what do you do next?

I dont use substrates but i know u should always wash everything before you put it in your tank

Absolutely wash it first.. If you don't your tank will be cloudy for at least a week or two.

Agreed

for these reasons

1. If its sand it will be full of dust that will cloud your water when ever it gets disturbed

2. If its gravel thats "fake" like colored gravel it may have some paint dust I have found.

3. as already stated you never know what could be on or in the substrate and you run the risk of harming or even killing your fish.
