After five years our washer toasted the main bearing in the top of the transmission & it wasn’t worth repairing. The archaic friction dampened coil spring suspension was shot, so the washing machine was also noisy. Once the shocks got so bad it started banging, I had to replace it.

Well I lucked out today And my wife will not be taking a mental health vacation due to the banging drum and the stress of dirty laundry expansion.

We went to five stores looking to buy a washing machine ASAP. My wife was having a meltdown before we even started. Before the third store, I stuffed her full of cheeseburgers and french fries, and then she was more pliable.

Anything I wanted was $800-$900+ And I would have to order it, And everybody was telling me that orders were 3, 5, 7, even 9 days out. (I knew right away that three days business was BS. Deliveries are slow as dirt right now because people are buying out the stores.

I was hot to buy “off the rack.”

So we persevered, and finally I made it to the Lowe’s on the other side of the next town, where it was 104 in the shade.

We brought home a nice $875 floor model (w/tax) Maytag for $425 incl tax, a scuff mark, and a dent.

But here is the real story . . .

With tax, that’s a $450 dent folks. An Expensive Luxury Executive Dent.
Because it was made in America. ;)

Otherwise it looks perfect & appears to run quietly.

Lowes was busy as could be and we were not going to find a sales associate in the geographic region.

My lovely wife, asked me if I could lift it by myself as I slid it on the cart, and again as tipped it up in the truck, and a third time as I slid it back down on a dolly. This is a silly formality that we have. My wife is saw me pick up the old washer and the one before. I keep getting older but washing machines have gotten a lot lighter. I can still dead lift over 250 pounds. If you know how to juggle the thing you don’t have to do that anyway.

So I saved a bunch, our laundry was only out of commission one day, and Even better, a whole bunch of the good parts from my old Kenmore (by Whirlpool) will fit on this Maytag (by Whirlpool) This included the main motor, belt, pulley, clockwork/cam motor, capacitor, water pump, door switch, valve, and the 5 hoses.

And now it’s Miller time.

Hello; Not a washing machine story, but a today shopping story. Went to a local shop to order some tires for my car. I had priced them about a year ago but figured to get some more miles from my old set. I do not drive as much. I planed to get some Cooper tires as they are made and based in my country. Not available today and cost more. I can go with Goodyear as I think they are still company based here and made here.

I think Cooper and Carlisle are both history. We used to have a Perelli plant here but they shut down a while back.

I'm disappointed in you Ulu Ulu . That washing machine had another 20 years in it if you'd have been bothered to get your tool box and welding gear out, lol.

Oh I tried.

The degradation of expensive critical plastic bits was too much, and the Transmission had a failed cog. It slipped on the shaft.

Also, I smelled hot wiring. Something was going to croak soon, probably in the ac/dc power inverter.

I bought one from Lowe's a few years back.
It was on the floor with a sign that said
"Return item. Leaks from bottom. As is."
I lifted it up, looked at the bottom, and noticed that there was a missing hose about 2" long from one valve to a connecter. I ordered the correct hose from an appliance repair shop and it has worked like a charm ever since. It was over $800 retail. And because of the leak, I got it for $75. The manager agreed only if I took it immediately. Probably the best deal I ever found on appliances.

Well I tore my old washing machine completely apart today. Maybe I’ll put the electronics panel up for sale, since the computer still works fine. I was mostly interested in large flat pieces of non-rusty sheet-metal. You can pay a lot for that stuff.
