After five years our washer toasted the main bearing in the top of the transmission & it wasn’t worth repairing. The archaic friction dampened coil spring suspension was shot, so the washing machine was also noisy. Once the shocks got so bad it started banging, I had to replace it.
Well I lucked out today And my wife will not be taking a mental health vacation due to the banging drum and the stress of dirty laundry expansion.
We went to five stores looking to buy a washing machine ASAP. My wife was having a meltdown before we even started. Before the third store, I stuffed her full of cheeseburgers and french fries, and then she was more pliable.
Anything I wanted was $800-$900+ And I would have to order it, And everybody was telling me that orders were 3, 5, 7, even 9 days out. (I knew right away that three days business was BS. Deliveries are slow as dirt right now because people are buying out the stores.
I was hot to buy “off the rack.”
So we persevered, and finally I made it to the Lowe’s on the other side of the next town, where it was 104 in the shade.
We brought home a nice $875 floor model (w/tax) Maytag for $425 incl tax, a scuff mark, and a dent.

But here is the real story . . .

With tax, that’s a $450 dent folks. An Expensive Luxury Executive Dent.
Because it was made in America.
Otherwise it looks perfect & appears to run quietly.
Lowes was busy as could be and we were not going to find a sales associate in the geographic region.
My lovely wife, asked me if I could lift it by myself as I slid it on the cart, and again as tipped it up in the truck, and a third time as I slid it back down on a dolly. This is a silly formality that we have. My wife is saw me pick up the old washer and the one before. I keep getting older but washing machines have gotten a lot lighter. I can still dead lift over 250 pounds. If you know how to juggle the thing you don’t have to do that anyway.
So I saved a bunch, our laundry was only out of commission one day, and Even better, a whole bunch of the good parts from my old Kenmore (by Whirlpool) will fit on this Maytag (by Whirlpool) This included the main motor, belt, pulley, clockwork/cam motor, capacitor, water pump, door switch, valve, and the 5 hoses.
And now it’s Miller time.
