Washing PVC fittings

What does everyone wash their PVC fittings and valves with ? Just purchased a gate valve for my bean animal and noticed that it was lubricated with some type of grease or oil. I assume this would be bad for fish

I would wipe clean and wash is dish soap and rinse several times.
If the valve is made for potable water then it’s probably safe to use.

I would wipe any excess. I would not wipe where the o-rings are. That helps keep the rubber flexible and from not drying out. It helps keep the seal. I don't have facts on hand but I added more lubricant and not worried about being toxic.

PVC fittings are usually lubricated with silicone plumbers grease. It should not be toxic to humans or fish which is why they use silicone grease.
