wat do u do with a coconut shell??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Assuming the shell is already drained and dried, cut it in half...Treat the two halves as you would treat flowering clay pots...Depending on what you are keeping, it is best to keep the halves seperated for different territory possibilities....

I use a hole saw to drill a 2-3" hole into a fresh coconut. Then, remove the milk and meat, place a rock inside so it'll sink, and add it to a pleco/ancistris tank. The husk fibers can be left on since these cats will chew them away rather quickly. They'll gnaw on the shell for months before it needs to be replaced. Pairs may even spawn inside the new cave.

Geez!! How about maintaining one train of thought in this thread. If you have a plant question, post another thread since chances are no one will see it in this older unrelated thread.

That was my original question about the clay pot but its too late now I just opened the put a big hole in the bottom and dropped it in!What happens if you dont wash them?

why a coconut man just use a clay pot wash real good with water and you are fine

Guess you didn't read about plecs/ancistris grazing on coconut shells and husks.

Again, this thread isn't about clay pots. Post your own question thread.

If you don't wash/rinse clay pots, probably nothing will happen. However, there's no way of knowing what may have dripped, splashed, dropped onto, or spilled onto the pot before you bought it. Better to rinse them off than risk putting some secondary toxin into your tank. That's only common sense.
