:cry::((IGNORE TITLE FORGOT TO CHANGE) this probaly doesnt fit with this thread but its really helpful.Well i have a couple of people on with a beef with me, im a game programmer sorta, and i this guy started with me so i jsut ignored him.long story short if someone threatens to hack you make sure u got a good firewall and virus protecter, i left for my grandmas retirement today and when i come home, my screens black, i reboot it and my computers missing an important file,
and way i cant load my computer, cant do system recovery, its shot....
so im screwed.

DONT MESS WITH ANYONE ONLINE !!!!!!!

sorry if this doesnt fit with what lessons are ssuppose to pretain to this thread but its a very good lesson learn, $400 computer shot :nilly::nilly::irked:

ouch, yeah those hackers are fiesty little pricks when it comes to that stuff (No offense to any hackers out there)

I know what you mean. Your IP address is relatively easy to get and once the have that unless your covered by a really good fire wall they can wreck havoc, virus protection won't help.

If you can't boot from floppy/CD means they got to your BIOS. That goes beyond annoying games and is just malicious.:WTF:

Your CPU is not "shot". Goodness sakes just format and reinstall.
Edit: If you're a "game programmer" you already should know that.

if they messed with the bios, you could have to reflash them. But even that is not all that difficult. Slightly more involved than reformatting. But even if you dont want ot do that work, you can just replace the CPU for 80 bucks and reformat :-P

A reformat/reinstall of the operating system can 'fix' whatever a hacker would have done to your computer. Unless they executed a corrupted/malformed BIOS update program(some MoBo vendors think its a good idea to even make these:screwy:, let alone give them to the average user:screwy::screwy:), the likelihood of your BIOS being corrupted remotely is so small, I don't have anything to compare it to.

You shouldn't have to 'replace' anything, just hope you have backups of your important files. The only thing it should cost is time, and maybe some files that weren't backed up.
