I came to check on one of my tanks and noticed one of my small blood parrots had something jammed in his throat keeping his mouth open. He was having a hard time swimming and the object looked like it may have been in there all night. I took him out and used forceps to carefully get the object out. It turns out it was a jagged piece of gravel. Weird because all my gravel in that particular tank is big and smooth like River rock . Anyway the rock turned out to be bigger than his mouth. I have no idea how he got it in there but he did. So just a reminder keep a close watch on your fish! Even when you think you've done everything 100% correct.

Whoa! Good thing it didn't suffocate him overnight.

Hopefully that doesn't happen to my FH. Ocassionally, he will eat food on the gravel, chew it up and spit gravel pieces back out. And some of my gravel has jagged and sharp pieces of coral, seashells and whatnot that could seriously cut him up.
