Pet stores always say people bought fish that have actually died. My LFS had two pacu one week and I asked about where they went. They said someone bought them. So I replied, "You put them in the freezer or the fridge?". And they confessed. I mean, it's a pet store, not a museum. At the longest, their display and large unsellable fish might stay alive three or four years. Obviously pacu, oscars and the like are typically euthanized after a few weeks or months. It's a business, not a zoo. Sad but true.
