how would you go about removing a water based paint on the back of a glass tank? would it be worth removing? or would there be permenant stains or scracthes ??? thank you.

how large is the tank? i started to remove some oil-based paint from the back of a 55 gallon and gave up after about 1/4 of the job was done. not sure about water based paint, will alcohol break it down a bit? i used a razor blade on mine (never finished it and wound up throwing it away) but be careful if you try this approach, you can easily scratch your glass. you have to use a pretty agressive angle to get the stuff off.

I would think you could remove it like a furnitured stripper removes paint. Use the solvent and scrape it off with a plastic knife. Let it sit overnight in a 1/ 3 part bleach, 2/3 water solution. Rinse well. You know when all the bleach effects are gone when the smell disappears.

Actually, I just used a glass scraper, they sell 'em at wallmart and home depot. It's a flat blade on a handle, you just wet the surface a bit and put at an angle and scrape, easy actually, you may have to wet spots to get better action, but if you do it at a good angle, there is no scratching or anything. I changed my 110 and my 29 to dark blue and it took only a few minutes to do it, the hard part is the plastic frame if you got any on that.
