water change for a planted?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
To determine your water change regiment, you need to know what all your water source has for nutrients. You also need to know what levels those nutrients are in your tank.

Also, don't monster stock your planted tank, I learned that the hard way. Lot's of Nitrate plus lots of light = ALGAE FARM

You can put monster stocking, but you just have to have plants that can grow fast enough to keep up with the nitrates.

In my planted Oscar tank I do 75% changes 2xs a week :) This keep Nitrates (Below 10) nice and low and cleans up after my messy and well loved fish:) When you Vaccume be sure to get around the bases of the plants. Lots of fish gunk like to gather there... :) I dose twice a week with Flourish Excel (right after water changes) and my Java fern, Banana Plants, Anachris, and Bacopa Carolinga grow quickly!
