State of chaos
now that i have a warm water fish, how do i add new water? i dont want to shock my Otto. Should I use warm water from the tap? i mean, is lead one of the heavy metals that aqua plus can dissolve?

If you're too scared to use from the tap, invest in an extra heater, get the cold water where you usually get it from, and then heat it up.

Although, why would your hot water have lead?

i have a heater. i use from the tap but ive heard that warm water running through the pipes picks up lead. i used to remove my fish and the acclimate with a bag like i would float a new fish but that was with tough-as-nails white cloud minnows, not ottos

this only happens if you have lead pipes.... its 2009 and you live in ny.... dont stress it that much

no water conditioners do anything for heavy metals... thats what RO systems are for... you can use carbon if you are that worried... otos are not known for being the most sensitive fish in the world.. temp shock is bad for all fish.. floating the bag is always a good idea as is matching tap temp with tank temp when doing water changes.. condition it as usual... using carbon never hurts just change it from time to time since it stops working over time..

I use a python with warm water. By feel, I try to match it as closely as possible to the tank water. I don't think I have lead pipes though.

I get my new water straight from the tap and just match the temp of the tank to the new water as close as posible when doing my water changes . I have been doing that for years and have had no problems .

All i do with my bara is siphon out around 20% of water. Then just fill it back up slowly nearly a trickle so the heater and filters can keep up with the temp. Adding a bit of prime water conditioner will also help alot with a few heavy metals, no3 and chlorine so on. No probs with that yet. Damo

I used to try and match the water temperature of the new water to the tank water during a water change by using warm water, now I use cold water straight from the tap and treat with water ager as I'm doing so. Fish don't seem to be affected by the temperature drop. Some species actually appear to enjoy a slight drop in temp.

LMFAO. If you were drinking water that travels through lead pipes, you probably would be somewhat mentally deficient. Odds are your pipes are copper or PVC. I'd just go with tap water at the appropriate temp or let water sit at room temp for a week or so. I keep my apartment at 75 degrees though, so there's less temp difference.
