My standard water change was a to shut off pump to wet/dry, drain water, then refill with tank.

Recently, I have been siphoning and filling at the same time. This way, I don't have to shut off the pump and it seems less stressful and less disruptive to the fish.

The tank is 175g and I change out 30 gallons each time (1-2x a week)

Is the simultaneous water change as good as the drain/refill method?

IMO - I feel better doing the drain and fill method. This way I know for sure that the old water is being replaced vs. draining out a mixture of new/old water.

i agree its better control...

yea i do refill after... buts its more work but you get better water quilty :)

drain then fill if faster more efficient way to work but the other way is good too you only you will waste a lot of water to get the same results and lose a lot of benificial qualitys
