hi all could any one recommend a small water pump.

what i m trying to do:

when i do water changes i have to tote 5 gal bottles around is there any brand of external pump that i could attach a hose to the input and exit of the pump so i dont have to hold he 5 gal bottle over the tank?

FX5's come with an extra attachment so you can use them to do water changes just need to get a hose for it and it will pump water out of your tank (havnt heard of anybody actualy dong this, although it explains it in the manual)

....otherwise I suggest just taking your hose and sticking the end of it in your tank with then end right where you want to lower your water level to.as long as the other end of the hose is below the level of the tank you shouldn't even have to siphon,it should siphon itself and begin draining water from your tank.

my $0.02

With a small water pump is very practical & relaxed to function, because of the little dimension it is simple to set up and manage. The pump has a sealed cover that can be used not only as the usual pump but also under water.

Pumps are great for emptying and filling large tanks! I use a pump to drain my tanks into the yard, but to fill them I just put a hose on the sink and run it. I still love the bucket for my guppy tanks (10 gallon), and the exercise is good anyway. But for anything bigger than a 55g, hoses and pumps all the way. Rio is a great pump.

You want a submersible pump that you can just drop into a tank or water barrel. An external pump would have to be primed or plumbed below the water line.

I like the Marineland Maxi-Jet utility pumps for this. They come with intake screens and barbed fittings. Get one of the models with a 1/2" barb (models 400, 900, or 1100).

I use one of those too. I thought he wanted an inline.....Works great does'nt it.

May wanna consider using a smaller rate pump for refill. Takes ay the para shocks ya, cheers

I bought a $20 garden pond pump with a barbed output from the hardware store. It can pump water vertically up to seven feet. I would've preferred an in-line pump, and I remember seeing one by Little Giant for ~$40, but for $20, the pond pump saved me a ton of effort.
