Water Change Question (Garden Hose)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would use a hose that is drinking water safe. Usually ones made for boats and RVs.

I just picked up some at Menards actually for about 8 bucks per 25' hose.

garden hoses are fine.. however there are a few suggested whatevers for them

-keep the hose dry when not in use
-dont keep it in the sun
-run some water through it for a bit before refilling the tank

also read the lable on your prime... it says something along the lines of "treat for total volume of the tank" or something when adding tap water directly to the tank...
fyi harbor freight sells pumps that do about 250 gph at 6' of head for like $25.. they work great for water changes..

if you use the faucet from outside the house there is no hot water adjustment and your fish might go into temp shock.

thats a bad assumption to make. there are many, many people who have hot and cold running water outside.

no need to use the outside water anyway however. the plastic or brass piece that connects to the faucet for pythons, will screw right to the female end of the hose, and to your sink. the piece should only be $5-$10

been using them for years. its fine

I use a garden hose every water change no problems.
