What do people think of using a python-type siphon for water changes. I just set up a 110 gallon tank, and it sure beats hauling buckets of water back and forth. However, I always feel funny about running water directly from the tap into the aquarium, even if I add dechlorinator to the tank ahead of time.

i go right from sink

me too.....i just add some stress coat as i fill. Also make sure that the python tube isnt under water when you are fillting.

why is that?

I've heard it helps with dechlor. and prevents gas bubbles

gravel vac.....i could be wrong, but it works for me so im not gonna change:P I just let it splash into the water rather than pressurizing it under the water.

I run water straight from my sink too, while i'm at it, i add water conditioner (Novaqua) to remove chlorine. But i don't use a python, i use a garden hose and connect it to my sink. :D

I run refills straight from the tap via a hose.

The bucket method is actually better for the fish as it gives the tap water time to de-gas( dont think thats the word for it, but anyway) before dumping it in your aquarium, this is also the reason for having the end of the hose not submerged in the tank when you refill, but I doubt that does much compared to filling a bucket before dumping the water in the tank. But I do it anyway just incase ;)

Even though the bucket method is better, there is no way I could be bothered running back and forward between the tap with a bucket every time I want to do a water change(150-200l water change = 15-20 buckets of water :WHOA: ) so I use the hose and dump dechlor into the tank as its refilling, I havent noticed any problems doing it this way.
