give me your 2 cents, effective or not? i change 60 gallons out of my 125 using this method. i fill the bucket with tap then stop the tap flow, then add a cap of prime(50g) into the bucket then start up the tap flow slowly adding another cap of prime. water change.jpg

Looks a little complicated, why not just fill and add prime directly to the tank?

mark the tank on 1 side were 50 gallons out would be. buy a pump and pump the water out fill a 50 gallon bucket with water and prime, take the same pump and pump the new water in. 50 gal changes should take about 2-3 minutes.

I just add the prime on the side that has no fish (they hate the python so they stay away) right before I re-add tap water.

My oldest fish in the tank is about to turn 9, so it must be fine to do it that way ;)

I agree sounds extremely complicated and I don't think any more effective than adding the prime after you've changed the water. The short amount of time your giving the prime to mix in and do it's job isn't enough in my opinion to make any difference. Still it's cool that your trying to go the extra for the sake of your fish. The best you could probably accomplish if you want to go the extra mile, assuming you don't have a sump under the tank and sufficient room is place a 50 gallon tank under it to let the water age naturally or at least give the prime a chance to mix and do it's job. Then pump the water out during water changes.

I've gotta ask too you tend to post threads twice in 2 different sections, can I ask why?

simply cuz i want replys as fasdt as possible so the more people see it the better. lol, i see what ur saying tho thats a good idea, quick question for u my friend koltsix, i just set up a 20 high under my 125, i wanna grow out some mpimbwe frontosas, i filled the tank up with water from my 125 which is cycled. the filter media is new tho, can i add frontosas soon orrr??

I add a 1/4 cap of prime directly to the bucket I am filling. That's it.

If you take a portion of filter material from your 125's filter and add it to the 20 high if they're compatible filters that is it might work. I'm assuming everything is new in the tank too? If I'm hurrying a cycle on a new tank I add sand from my original tank and switch on a filter off a existing tank to the new tank. Though I'm able to that because I run a minimum of 2 canisters on every tank. Helps me not to worry about filter failures and filter cleanings. Still I might be hesitant with Mpimbwes as they're expensive and a little fragile as juvies. Plus I love Mpimbwes and wouldn't want to chance losing them.

Better option would be to do what I said use old filter material in the tank and throw fish food in it to check the cycling daily for a couple of days with a test kit to be positive of it's safety. Throw a partition in the 125 temporarily to house the Mpimbwe till you know it's safe for them. Can I ask how big are these Mpimbwes and where'd you get them was it from Valley Aquatics?

i didnt get em yet, country critters out in patchougue should have em in soon , they had em a couple months ago and now they dont(myluck)

Yeah rarer Front's have been getting harder to find. At on point they where in demand so they where expensive but readily available now the demand has dropped a bit so they're a little harder to find. Just a warning though they grow fairly slow for fish with such big adult sizes, but Mpimbwe's are awesome at around 5 inches and up in my opinion. You can check Valley Aquatics though as he's pretty good with Front's and his specimens are top notch. Right now he's got Moba, Kitumba, Mikula and Samazi in I believe.
