When doing a water change does the water have to be the same as it is in the tank or can it be cooler like when it comes out of the tap. i keep my tank at 80 and my tap water runs about 70-75 depending on how cold it is outsid. i figure if it is cooler it will simulate a rain fall and all that i was just curious to what you guys think.

I don't get complicated with it anymore... :) I just change it ;) K.I.S.S ;)

I do cold changes all year.

i never ever use water right from the tap because once a month water companys use alot more chlorine than usual to clean the water pipes. and im sure the temp is stressful. so i age my water at room temp for three days then do a 50 percent change on all my tanks every three days always on schedule. i have a bunch of trash cans filled with water aging in my closet. yeah im a little obcessed with my fish

Same temp as aquarium!

weel just to let you know i do not use it straight from the tap. i usually fill a 40 gallon garbage can with water and wter conditioner to dechlorinate the water. then i put a heater in it to bring up to the same temp as the tank.

i was just curious because in a back issue of TFH they said a little cooler water stimulated the fish kind of like after a rain fall. but that was for tropical fish and i wondered if the same princepal worked with RBP

you are a really good fish keeper. you could take your heater out every so often to simulate rainfall. i just wouldnt let the temp of your aged water go below 75. its a little chilly

Just try to match the same temp, wouldent go out of my way to make it rain temp.

You should try to keep the temp. as close as possible....
