how do you guys monitor the temperature of your water for water changes? Do you just run water around the right temperature and put it in or do you use cold water and heat it? Just curious on how everyone regulates temperature. Thanks!
I use the ultra accurate temperature measuring instrument called my hand. We just had a new water heating system installed so I just try to add the same temp water back in. Those with really old or outdated systems should be wary of bad piping or heaters contaminating the water and so I would only use cold water at a slow rate to do a water change.
When I started doing water changes I would add prime to the tank and fill directly from my sink, using the hand method to check that the temperature was close between what was coming from the tap and what was in the tank. While the tank was filling I would watch my digital thermometer to check for temperature swings. Eventually I figured out the exact faucet "setting" for the sink and now I just turn the water on and I know it's good.
