you dont generally have to add them if you let the water sit out for 24 hours

but depending on how large of quantity of water you are changing leaving the water to age is hard to do. I would just add the to remove all the Chlorine/Chloramines.

Chloramines will not evaporate as the chlorine will.

If your water has only chlorine and not chloramine, and you aerate well (i.e. use a Python), in theory you might not need to age or add conditioner.

Having said that, I always use conditioner anyway. The only way to be absolutely sure would be to test the aerated water using a chlorine test kit.

Your water supplier can tell you if they use chlorine or chloramine. Another way to tell is to add your usual conditioner to the tap water and then immediately use an ammonia test strip. Conditioner splits chloramine into chlorine and ammonia, so you will see a bit of ammonia in the water (unless you are using a test kit that measures only free ammonia like the Seachem test).

You shouldn't need both of the products you are using, though. I'm not sure what the first one is doing for you, it is probably redundant and may have extra ingredients you don't need. Just use the conditioner in the bottle.
