do arowanas usually not eat the day after water changes?
My Aro has eaten no matter what, but I hear some Aros are so tempermental, any little thing, and they become picky...
You are declorinating the water, or using Age water, the Nitrates should be lower with a W/C...

some aros jus dont like the change, or the action givin during a water change. it must be stressful havin to swim around while ur water volume is dropping, its gettin stirred up n cloudy from crap in the gravel. then filling back up with water then doesn't match the same params. i'd freak out too... but my fish dont. there all used to it n actually enjoy water changes. get all excited like they kno fresh waters comin lol

I feed my aro crickets during the water change. I drain 50% and clean then refill but leave about 4-5" from the top(Jumping room) I have 3 fake lilly pads which I put the crickets on, then over the next 15 minutes he gets to hunt the crickets that are on the lilly pads. Once he is done I refill the rest of the way.

My aro will eat most anytime I offer.

Any change in temp. or parameters can change their behavior. My current Aro used to take a day to get over it, now it takes 1 minute. My previous Aro insisted on helping every second and was always in the middle of the tubes wanting belly rubs, so it just depends on your fish. I wouldn't worry too much.
