Just wondering...in a 300g-ish tank, if keeping a ray with a few other "messy" fish like Arowanas and Pacu, how would you guys perform water changes? How often, and of how much water?

See I am planning a tank, and I have a well at home. So the water change volumes will actually influence the size of tank I will build for the fishes. I know rays need clean water, but up to what level? I mean would a 15-25% weekly change be enough, with monitoring of the water parameters?

I know it's hard to tell, but I'd like an idea of the volume of water...

Any other people with wells out there can give me feedback on large water changes vs. volume...I have absolutely no idea what my well can dish out in terms of water volume, and I would certainly not want to empty it... There are people on my street (we all have wells) that have 21' + pools, so I don't think my tanks are a problem...but still I am wondering.

Thanks, sorry for text lenght ;) !

I have a moderately stocked 300 with rays and other messy eaters. My advice is to put a lot of thought into your filtration and water change setup now while you still can. I'm a big advocate of large, daily water changes.

If it were my tank, I'd change 30%-50% of the water 3-5 times/week. Your fish will thank you with fast growth and better health, algae will hopefully remain minimal, and your tank will be able to sustain more fish.
