Ive done two big 50% water changes in the last two days in preperation for a busy week and sinse then my male has been at the female constantly she has a few bite marks around her disc, hes too small compared with her to really bother her though. Just wondered if its coincidense or if the WC have acted as a trigger?

Thanks Angus

I know that allot of fish wont mate unless massive water changes have been done, My Angel fish started to lay eggs like crazy when I started doing large water changes

Water changes simulate rainfall. If I remember correctly, the time they breed in the wild is when the water levels start rising due to nonstop rain. Im guessing the waterchanges stimulate them into breeding as they think its rainfall.

Hi Angus.
This happens pretty much every time i change water on my big pair of Marbles,he grabs the trailing edge of her disc whilst vibrating it very rapidly....your males practicing by the sound of things.
Good luck breeding them in the future.

Yepp, holds true for a lot of fish. I remember way back one of my first tanks had some electric blue peacocks that would spawn almost every time I did a water change. If you've got a breeding pair/pairs of anything, try adding water that is just slightly cooler than the aquarium water. As Gshock stated, this stimulates rainfall which in turn stimulates breeding activity.

This drop in temp for me is very key during the waterchanges to get the male more geared up.
