Every week, i do a water change of 50% of my 55gallon. My arowana (5-6 inch) starts to shed when im loading the the fresh water in. Why is that? Is this normal?

Shedding?! What is he losing I know your not talking about losing his skin, are you referring to slimecoat......thats not normal if you are.
Are you adding in any kind of chlor removal or just adding straight from the tap?! Can you provide a pic of this "shedding" your talking about?!

yea im adding water straight from the tap, its not really shedding, but its something shedding, i think its the slime coat, its very thin, sorry dont have any pics, it stopped shedding

You really should consider adding in some prime to your tank when doing water changes especially 50%changes every week, its not a good thing when your fish loses their slime coats as they become more susceptible to illnesses. Is the aro swimming fine or is it lying down on the substrate and darting?!

its doing fine, its staying at its usual spot on the top, i only changed water today cus it was acting up before, it started jumping and banging it self on the glass. So i went to check the ammonia, and it was pretty strong, so i had to do a 50%, but i dont know why it was shedding for. Must be the water.

You must put a water conditioner/anti-chloramine into the tank.Chlorines are poisonous to fishes.

usual spot? pretty sure healthy aro's are almost constantly swimming back and forth

+1 on the Prime. pick some up ASAP and use it with every water change. Dose for the size of the tank, not the % of water changed.

dude you cant just add straight from the tap, you dont know how much stuff they put in city water, please treat with some amquel or something like that, and you prolly dont need 50% water change if you are not overstocked.
