I've been changing 25 gallons every week on my 150 gallon fish tank and 10 gallons on my 55 gallon. I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly. After removing the water from the tank I run the hose into the tank to refill it then add tap water conditioner for the chlorine. Should I also add bacteria? should I treat the water before adding it? If so, how do I treat it first and then add it to the tank?

I add prime to my tanks as they are filling up and just dose for the whole tank. You really don't need to add bacteria since it will stay alive in your filter and in tank while you do the change.

I do the same thing. However, with the first bucket of new water I put in, I dose it with the adequate amount of prime required for the whole tank. When pouring the first batch of new water in, it naturally creates a stir/mix with the tank water, which I believe will cause the prime to spread out more evenly.

Following with normal buckets of new water (I know, I need a hose :P ), without prime. Worked well for me so far.

What is the point in adding dechlorinator AFTER you have filled the tank and the chlorine has come into contact with your fish and the filter media (if they're still running)?

Best practice would be to heat and pre-treat the water before adding it to the tank, but many (most?) people seem to find adding dechlorinator to the tank then filling directly from the tap works well too.

I use a huge bottle( I only have a small tank) and I fill it up with water and dechlorinater

Ok that sounds like a good idea. Add the dechlorinator to the tank before I run water from the hose into the tank. I'll try that next time. I always turn the fliters, heater, and fan off when I'm doing the water change. I'm concerned about pre treating water because I have two 5 gallon buckets that I siphon water from the tank. I usually take 6 buckets out. Then dump it. If I only have 2 buckets should I put the dechlorinator in the bucket then dump it into the tank like that. How long should I store the pre teated water? I was thinking maybe buying some drinking water 5 gallon jugs to put the pre treated water. My concern also is my tank is 5 feet off the ground and I'm worried I might spill bucket water. I was thinking also to buy the Python hose. Has anybody tried that? What are your thoughts on the Python hose?

I add enough Prime for the entire tank to the first bucket of water and then just the rest of the water back into the tank. I also make sure the water temp is the same as the temp in the tank. Been doing it forever this way and never had a problem.
