are you using a python? I tend to suck up sand trying to get under the wood. I put a small bucket under the faucet. it will catch the sand and clean it. then I just dump it back in the tank using a plastic cup before I start filling. I do use carib-sea. it's a heavy sand and does'nt cloud the water.
When I do water changes, I run the water with a garden hose into a shallow pan in the yard which collects any sand I clean it and put it back into the tank, pretty easy to do.
the sand that i have is very fine , when i use the python it sucks up alot of it. i tried the bucket but it didnt work to good alot of sand went down the drain and thats gonna cause me problems with my pipes eventually.
