I have a 180 gallon tank with 4 6-7 inch motoros. I have a sump, an emperor 400 filter and three power heads and a sterilizer. I checked my water quality tonight and amonnia was up a tad and the ph was wiped out. I was doing a water change one a week. i was doing two but dropped to one. If i go back to two a week would that be enough to keep those levels ok? I also feed these guys and gals twice a day. Frozen fish and krill. Thanks for any info.

well if your parameters are out of wack then yea do 2 changes a week maybe you need 3 50% changes a week.... you gotta test your water to see what keeps the tank in check....

you may be in a mini cycle.... you should increase you waterchanges or add a flow through system and change water automatically 24/7 with a drip system.... that's a big bioload for the tank.... motoros produce a lot of waste....

What do you mean by cycled? The tanks been up and running for almost a year now. It used to have other types of fish in it before these guys.

YOU MAY HAVE BACTERIA ON YOUR FILTER THAT BREAKS DOWN AMMONIA, BUT NOT ENOUGH TO HANDLE THE BIOLOAD OF RAYS!

DO LOTS OF WATER CHANGES!

need more media in the sump

amonia will kill the rays best sort it out fast

buy just doing 1 water change per week the only things that should have changed are the ph maybe and the nitrates

the nitrates will go up for sure the ph may drop as you are not buffing it with fresh water

when i was in hospital for 5 weeks my girlfreind was only doing 1 water change for me per week i normally do 2 the ph dropped from 7.2 down to 4.8 the fish still looked healthy as the ph had droped slowly big drops or increses in ph can killl rays

add some bio max rings eheim substrate pro seachem matrixetc.... to your sump...

I just use nylon scrub pads in my sump - way cheaper. And the looks I get when I buy a bunch is hilarious!
