OK, i have a 30 gallon tank with plenty of live rock at least 20 lbs. Two clowns , a Foxface Lo and a lil goby running around. Inverts are just two crabs and a large Turbo snail, I do have an anemone and a cluster of mushrooms, Being with all of that and that i do run a 350 magnum filter with a protein skimmer how often should i be doing water changes, i have been using phosphate pads in my canister filter that has been helping alot but i still get a green algae that will not come off the glass unless scrapped off with a putty knife. Pretty sure this is the cause of not to many water changes. What do ya think??!!

30 is pretty small for any foxface...

if your nitrates, phos, ammonia/nitrites/etc stay down you really only have to do water changes every other week or so, to replace trace elements

yea i know the foxface is large , but i plan on getting a 75 gallon as needed because i have a horseshoe crab as well , and with having a protein skimmer how often should i be adding trace elements as in i have iodine and the part 1 and part 2 of essential elements, cant think of exactly what its called !!

iodine is tricky and can easily be overdosed, be careful to follow the instructions on that to a "T"

the calcium/alkalinity suppliment (the part 1 & 2 thing) could be added every day or as otherwise noted, based on your calcium readings

if you're adding stuff to the tank i'm, assuming your testing for it... right?

While we are here, i add 15drops (1 ml) of iodine to my 190 everyday bigG, is this ok?

A question for you is how much and how often are you feeding and what do you feed? also to help with the algae you definetly need more snail's in there with cleaning of the algae and detritus. Dosing Iodine is easy if you follow direction's and have brightwell aquatic's EraseCL in case you overdose.

My 30 I usually do a 10% every week to week and a half. My params are perfect I could go longer and I probably will once I stop being a worry wart.
