is it always necessary to put meds in after water changes? like chlorine killers etc.

Always dechlor the water before adding it or as you add it. Chlorine burns gill tissue quickly

depends on your water

Just use Prime, everytime. It's cheap.

Dechlorinating should be the first thing you worry about with fish. Some people get very good water straight out of their taps which is fine for aquarium water, but it isnt always stable. Sometimes for various reasons there may be more chemicals added to the water and then your fish wont be too happy with you ;)

prime? i thought stress coat was the staple of water treatments, how cheap are we talking? :naughty:

I say take a sample of your tap water to the LFS and have them test it. You will need to dechlorinate no matter what, but you may have to add some other chemicals. My water is sometimes very high in ammonia, so I use Amquel to treat the water during water changes. If you have a good LFS that you go to, they should be able to advise you on what to add.

I dont use anything.Ihave a private well water is slighly hard decent buffer and very clean:D

It is roughly the same price, but far less is needed per gallon to treat the water. Plus it does much more than stress coat.
