what % of a 46g tank should I be changing every week? I've been doing a 25% every month but I'm hearing about weekly changes being needed also. Ive got a whisper 60 filter on it (thinking of maybe a canister or something if I need it) Thanx

You're going to get a variance of answers, it depends on what your housing in your 46, and how much you fee. I like to do 30-40% per week. I don't like changing more then that do to changing the water parameters too much in one shot.....

Yep, everyone will have a different idea on this. However, if your fish are healthy with 25% a month, I guess that works. Personally, I change water more often (weekly).

Thanx for the info, I'm not sure that my fish are as healthy as they could be, so maybe I should start a weekly change :) But I'm also wondering if there is such a thing as too much filtration ??

No such thing as too much filtration, other than fish are fighting the current all the time aka whisper 60 on a 5gallon.

On my 55g I got a Whisper 60, Emperor 400, and a quickfilter on my Power head.

the best way to tell is to test your water daily, and when the nitrates are higher than what you want change the water. Test. Repeat.
it will vary with number and size of fish, feeding, ect.

I change about 50% weekly, alot of people do more it depends on your fish and how sensitive they are.Get a test kit and test nitrates and post the results and what kind of fish

Finally...I was wondering when you guys would show up..ALWAYS test your water first, otherwise you'll never know were you started.

rallysman and gomezaddams have the right ideas.

Do it by the book, as they say.
