Out Back In The Woods!
How does everyone go about Water Changes? As fish, chemicals, etc..
Do you leave the fish in the tank when draining the water in the tank? or remove them seems like it would stress them out quite a bit...
How bout chemicals do you put chemicals in with the fish still in the tank?
How bout adding the water with the fish still in the tank is it ok to put the chems in the tanks first before re-filling with the fish in the tank? or re-fill then put in chems?
What the proper way to go bout Water Changes?
How often Should you do water changes until you BB is established in your Filtration?
How often after your BB has been established do you do water changes?

I leave fish in when draining and filling up.the tank and use dechlorinator. Generally you should water change once a week minimun and the more the better.
For the BB i think its still weekly water changes and takes 4-8 weeks for it to be cycled. You should search the forums for other answers in the set up and filtration section

Sent from my cave

2x 100% weekly
water refilled through a 1cu.ft. catalytic carbon bottle
Kordon's Amquel+plus

either drain completely, refill, drain again and refill or constant water change with one drain and refill at the same time for about 2-3hrs

Three step:

1) drain the tank to desired level by using the back flush option on my 2262
2) add prime for the entire tank
3 refill with garden hose

So do a Water Change of 25-50% 2 Times a Week or desired water level.. Then once tank is drained to desired level put in chemicals( Im gonna switch to SeaChems Prime/Stability) Prime-to condition water & Stability-to help jumpstart BB.. Then Proceed to refill Correct?

Wouldnt the water temp coming from water source Sink/Well etc.. Be to cold to tropical fish and stress them out? or make them sluggish being colder than what the water temp was previous????

I have SA/CA cichlids, Malawi cichlids, loaches, plecos and some dithers(bala sharks and tin foil barbs). its a 300 gallon. I do about 30%(100 gallons) each time. The water temp drops from 80 to 77. In winter the temp drops from 76 to 73; recovers after 3-4 hours. None of my fish complained by behaving weird or dying.

I would not try it with delicate fish such as discus for instance.

So slowly re-fill the tank.. Im keeping catfish and in near future GATF, Arapiamas, Aro's But Mostly Catfish.. So a slow re-fill after Tank has been drained & chemicals have be added before re-filling is a safe bet for these species and a drop of less than 5* to 10* is safe for these species of fish while re-filling the tank???

I can't speak for a tigrinus but most fish not delicate are fine. I would not drop the tank temp below 72 though.

Arapiamas? How big a tank are you going to have? The reason I ask is if the tank is HUGE, then you might look at a constant drip system which is discussed elsewhere on this forum and I have no experience with.

Ecoli73,
Their will be no Tigrinus in this tank.. Only RTC X TSN Hybrids, Redtail Catfish, Spotted Shovelnose Catfish, Irwini Catfish, Firewood Catfish, (1)Pirariba, Ripsaw catfish... Big tank is a 20 x 20 x 4 yes i was plannin on a constant drip system still learning about that...
