Here is a question that I just thought of. Can you OVER water change your tanks? When you drop your Nitrates alot lower then 5ppm this does cause problems does it not?

I personally don't believe you can do too many water changes, if the water you are adding is significantly close in terms of temps and is chlorine/chloramine free.

Maybe someone else can shed more light on this.

I do water changes nearly every day...I have an auto drip system and do larger water changes + gravel vac every week or so.

Some fish are more sensitive to water changes than others. With fish like African cichlids (especially mbuna and haps) big water changes do wonders.

The key is no shocks in terms of temp or other parameters...

I hate water changes. I do them weekly tho. If it werent such a hassle, Id do them daily. But wouldnt we all?

I guess my real question is can you keep your nitrates TOO low? would it be possible to reverse or retard your completed cycle?
not unless you managed to kill of the filter bacteria.

what does that have to do with nitrate?

I meant you arn't going to have another cycle if you still have live bacteria.:D
