i just want to ask which water changing method is safer.. our tap water has chlorine so whenever i do a wc on our 75 gal. i first fill a bucket w/ water then add dechlorinizer before i put it in..my dad however says that this method is a waste of time and energy and thinks that when doing a wc, we should just get the hose and pour the water directly to the aquarium then add the dechlorinizer..i told him that the chlorine will kill the good bacteria before we are able to neutralize it..so what method is safer?

1.Take water out.
2.Dose Prime for whole tank per instructions.
3.Fill tank up with hose.

Prime is pretty much instant, so once you add it your finished. Just add the water. Your dad is right on this one.

I let my buckets sit for 5 mins with dechlor. Seems to take that long for the water to cloud up and become clear. Always worked for me...

u know what i do, i just pour hose water into my established tank without using any chemicals. i only used dechlorinater if i start up a new tank. i think its just a hoax cuz my fish are doing fine

I always play it safe, I do the bucket, treat it, then add it. I only wait about 10-20 seconds to let prime mix in the water.

As mentioned above, I've seen those that pre-treat the tank

so it is safe to add water w/ chlorine straight to the tank? won't the chlorine kill the beneficial bacteria on contact? or should i add the dechlorinizer to the aquarium water before adding the new water?

I don't think it is so much of a hoax as it is just a case of you not adding enough chlorinated water to your tank to harm your fish.I sometimes pour two five gallon buckets of straight tap water to make up for evaporation, but that is going into a 180.

I add the dechlorinator to the bucket while it is filling with water so by the time the bucket is full and I get it to the tank, the stuff should have mixed well enough to serve it's pupose...eventhough the label says it works instantly.
