Well see i have 2 problems that Im facing a cloudy 75 gal. community(still in progress)and to hard of water.Lets start with the cloudiness now ive cleaned my filter cartiges and getting enw oens but that can't be the problem and what I already know is that to main causes are calcium/phosphate and ammonia buildup, now I already know that it cant be ammonia for i have plants zeolite and I put in ammonia neutralizer when i started it up so it couldn't be it so cal./phos. so is there other solutions then water clarifyer I want to know?Second problem I have a tank that I started it up now I need it to be soft(my water softener didn't have salt in it.) So is there any other way to make it softener then using the softener pillows and peat moss i would like to know this.If you could i don't really get on MFK much so my email is vgmel8335@ameritech.net or you can message me on site your choice.

Did you cycle your 75 what are your water readings plants and adding a ammonia neutralizer will not make up for an uncled tank.

What do you mean you fixed ammonia build up? If you didn't cycle your tank then that it is the problem its cycling now and the cloudiness in the water is an ammonia bloom.

X2. You can't say you don't have an ammonia problem until you test for it. Right now you doing one of the worst things you can do on this forum....which is asking for advice and not listening when people try to help.

Test your ammonia and nitrites, I can almost guarantee that one or both are high. Once you've confirmed this start doing water changes, 50% every couple days untill it clears up.

x3. The cloudiness is actually cased by bacteria in the water column feeding on the ammonia. The only real solution to this is to do water changes, reduce fedings, and let it cycle. Don't fall into the category of adding things to the tank to fix it, it very rarely works well. Let nature do it's thing, and the tank will benefit tremendously.
As to your second question, salt in a water softener does not actually soften water for our purposes. It mearely replaces the calcium ions with sodium ions, making it appear softer to humans, but not to fish. The only really effective way to soften water is to mix it with RO/DI or distilled water. My only question would be is why? Most fish are quite capable of living in pretty hard water. Some tank specs, species, plants and ect would be helful.
Just as a helpful hint, it is best to put all of your water parameters and assorted other bits and pieces in your post when your having a problem. It helps us to accurately nail it down. For instance, the tank with the hard water, the hardness could be coming from your tap, or it could be coming from a piece of coral in the tank, rocks, or gravel.

Here i will explain this clearly my 75agl. has gone threw the hole entire cycling, actually I waited a very long time ok the reason why I said ammonia is that i know that some causes with cloudy water and its cycled and establish is calcium/phosphate and ammonia build up.I tested my ammonia it was fine.

to answer ure question see im a picky breeder but my fish all turn out better then just plain old breeders so Im trying to make them the most comfortable so
