Water Clarity and Plants

Maybe I have too many plants in my tank that have not shedded their leaves since I first put them in. It seems ot me that I am having a problem with keeping small subtrate from constantly floating around in my tank. Anyone else seem to have this problem. The water istelf seems pretty clear, but all the little crap floating is driving me nuts. I love crystal clear water. Water that you can't even tell is there.... Am I expecting too much from my planted tank?? Is this something i just need to mentally adjust too?

You need to do regular maintenance on your mechanical media, and possibly up your mech media.

Imaintain them pretty often. The filter meia ont he wet/dry needs constant maint. Seems as if the clog pretty quick. The FX-5 lasts about 3 weeks at most before I have to clean it. They just seem like little pieces of plant floating around. I still have a few gold fish left over from the 50 I bought to cycle. Most got eaten, but these guys survived.. Think they could be part of the cause? I hear they can tear up plants.
