Just curious, what is the best chemical out there that clears the water up? if any of them work at all? currently doing 25% wc on a 75g tank, its mostly clear but some of the tanks on this thread are insanely clear how do you get them like that?

Personally, i find the best thing to clear your water up is Purigen by seachem... that stuff seriously works magic... no need for chemicals at all...

Filtration. Its not any chemicals we put in the water. You want clear water make sure you have alot of filtration and alot of bio media. And a polishing pad wouldnt hurt

There's the secret UV or better yet use carbon then when clear take it off.

x2.
I couldn't agree more, no to mention them absorbing nitrate.
Put them at the end of your filtration system, as late as possible in the filtration process so they don't absorb any amm or nitrite.

They're magic!
Just make sure its the right size and wattage for ur tank.

You guys have summed it up pretty well.
A combo of good bio filtration, purigen and UV filters will give you clear water but i find you will also need strong filters like FX5's to concentrate on mech filtration to get rid of any debris in the tank for that overall 'crispy' water effect.
If your tank is setup right there is no need to use any chemicals except when doing water changes.

okay so if i get a UV Steralizer is it just a stand alone system or does it need to be hooked on a canister, im running 2 penguin 300 bio wheels on a 75g tank.... jsut looking for a standalone UV sterilizer, any recommendations, dont have any plants or anything just running it with 4 p's in it... nothing to spendy for the UV sterilizer... Also can some 1 explain how they work... like dont exactly understand them..

like is this a good standalone unit? http://www.bigalsonline.com/StoreCatalog/ctl3684/cp18545/si3827086/cl1/jbj_submariner_uv_sterilizer__5_watt?&path=c3684-def-USD-16695%23%23-1%23%23-1~~c3684-def-USD-18544%23%233%23%232y~~nc3684-def-USD-18545%23%230%23%23p&queryType=0&hits=12&offset=0

Most UV's are attached to the return hose of a canister filter but you will need to choose a filter that has a low enough flow rate for the UV sterilizer to be able to kill of algae and free flowing pathogens in the water.
I was using a 18w coralife turbo twist with eheim 2217 in my 180G with great results. For your tank you can probably get away with a 9w UV sterilizer.

This link should explain it better than i ever could :)
