if you have some material with lots of BB to stick in there from another tank, do that.
If you want the carbon, alternate cartridges changes.

I usually remove the carbon by slitting the top of floss & power rinsing it all out. then when dirty, I just rinse them both good instead of changing. so the BB remains. that's cheaper, plus I don't use carbon normally.
