I have 1 male retic and the water color has change to a clearish light green. Checked the water parameters: 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 40 nitrates, PH ~7.5. Do twice weekly water changes of 30%. Any ideas? Thought algae but can't see anything. I'm due this weekend to change filter material in my cannister(just the pads).

It's a single diatom algae that creates that tint. Reduce the light the tanks sees, or change the spectrum of the bulbs to a true white or even into the blue range. Sunlight, yellow light and old lights can feed the algae.

Agree with zoo diver. If you can halve the nitrate reading then there will be even less for any algae to feed on but I think light is the key.

Thanks . I had changed lighting in the room. Wiill correct it. Should I use any algae treament?
