I'm only a newby to fish keeping and i'm trying to find out why the water in my tank changes colour. I have a black fish in a loner tank (no idea of the breed, very agressive) it seems happy to be by it's self and the water stays clear with a little in tank filter. My other tank has one of the same black fish althought it is significantly less agressive, it also contains a small imature oscar and a blue fish (unknown breed) I only feed them once a week of tropical feed, other than that they feed upon feeder fish. This has been happening for a while, I removed all the gravel(bottom material) and filtered it but still have the same problem, why is the water looking so bad, my local water source has a high PH reading, around 8 or 9, it is different every day, I always put it back it down to 7 before I add the water to the tank

you might want to stop changing the pH, it stresses the fish and most fish can stand a high pH better than a constantly changing one.
