My local water company has decided to sandblast and paint our water tanks. The water now taste like plastic. The water company could only tell me the water is safe to drink. What I'm tasting it similar to what happens when you buy a new water bottle and it has that plastic taste. He couldn't offer me any advice on my fish tanks but he assured me it was safe to drink. My obvious concern is water changes. Because this is a month long process. And even if I didn't do a water change for a month I still have to replenish what's evaporated. Any one have any experience advice?

If you are really worried about it you could go to the grocery store and buy the 5 gallon containers of RO/distilled and use that or you can take your chances.

The cheapest and easiest way is open a membership with a store that sell drinking water, it's cost 20 cents per galon. This is best method for anyone that not going to change their aquarium water everyday :D and water PH is always neutral (7.0).

Something like a Pur water filter should be able to take out the bad taste.

In regards to water changes, perhaps buy this nearly 1Kgal kiddie pool ($60) and fill with untreated water from a swimming pool supply store.

I get around our highly treated water by collecting rain water and using bottled distilled water. In a pinch Ill also put tap water in 5 gallon buckets add the water conditioner and if its really bad filter the buckets with carbon.
