Canada eh?
Hey all, i do water changes constantly on my tanks. i was starting to wonder if water conditioners will have any negative impacts on fish? also iv heard that leaving water to sit for 42 hours or boiling it will get rid of chlorine and heavy metals from the water, as a natural option instead of using water conditioners, is this true?

Boiling water will remove the chlorine, but not heavy metals nor chlamorines (sp?)...

If you aerate the water, letting it sit for 24 hours does the same thing...

You'll spend more on fuel to boil water or run the air pump than you will on conditioners... assuming you buy the big bottle...

the chloramine is a reason to use conditioners as it doesnt dissipate like chlorine does. chloramine stays in the water for a long time so conditioners are needed to neutralise it.

I used to have a bunch of 5g bottles that I would fill up and let age. I would rotate them out every water change which I did every week or two. Eventually, I got lazy and just started using the hose and conditioner. Just letting it sit is fine, but I tend to think that a lot of hobbyist over think things too much and it gets complicated. Water and conditioner...that's all you need.

For large or multiple tanks, boiling just isn't practical, nor is aging, etc. The more work it is, the less enjoyable it becomes.

Keep it simple.
